這種大葉不死鳥繁殖力就很強了。繁殖力更強的是小葉有斑點那一種不死鳥，隨便的屋頂，有一點泥沙就能長，不過外觀不如大葉不死鳥討喜。為何不死鳥那麼耐旱？因為與仙人掌一樣是用 CAM Crassulacean acid metabolism (景天酸代謝) 的光合作用，夜間氣孔打開，吸收二氧化碳，合成有機酸。白天氣孔關閉，減少水份蒸發。不死鳥是景天科的植物。

小葉的不死鳥有分寬葉（橢圓形）、窄葉（棒狀葉）（洋吊鐘 Bryophyllum delagoense, mother of thousands, mother of millions,  and devil's backbone.） 兩種。

洋吊鐘 Bryophyllum delagoense 的花看起來很漂亮，葉子的顏色很醜，繁殖力超強，不要隨便種植。洋吊鐘 Bryophyllum delagoense, mother of thousands, mother of millions,  and devil's backbone. 含有一種心臟的毒素稱為 bufadienolide cardiac glycosides，羊或牛等草食動物誤食可能會造成傷害。

這是小寬葉不死鳥。這種不死鳥似乎繁殖力是最強的。

不過在一般草地繁殖力不是那麼強，因為一般的野草長得比不死鳥快又高，不死鳥的幼苗容易被草地覆蓋。但是陽台、屋頂就要小心了，少許泥土、乾旱的環境，沒有植物能與不死鳥競爭。

這種小葉的不死鳥看起來真的有夠醜陋。
